Police are investigating the unfortunate circumstances surrounding a wrong-way crash that occurred early on the morning of Oct. 28, 2016. The car accident occurred just east of New Iberia, Louisiana. Both women involved in the collision were declared dead at the scene by an official from the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.

The automobile accident occurred on U.S. Highway 90 near Louisiana 675 at around 2:30 in the morning. A 22-year-old female from St. Martinville was driving a coupe the wrong way, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. She collided head-on with a sedan driven by a 38-year-old woman from New Iberia. Sadly, both woman sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Officers say that one of the women was wearing her seat belt, while the other was not, which may have resulted in additional injuries to the second woman. Regardless, investigators do believe that impairment was a factor in the automobile accident.  Blood samples from both victims were obtained and sent for analysis to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Officials are still awaiting results of the test.

A state police officer urges the public to never drive impaired. If an impaired driver causes either the wrongful death of or personal injury to another individual in a car accident, either the victim or surviving family members may seek legal counsel. An attorney with experience in these matters could help a victim or a fatally injured victim’s family members seek monetary compensation for their pain and suffering or for their pain and suffering in the case of the victim’s death.
