1 passenger killed, another injured in Louisiana car accident

Police in Louisiana are investigating the cause of a crash that killed two people and left another individual seriously injured. This car accident occurred in West Baton Rouge on Oct. 15. Authorities believe that only the one vehicle was involved in this wreck.

According to reports, police were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash on Louisiana 984, just after 1 a.m. Authorities say that the driver -- a 49-year-old male -- appeared to have lost control of his vehicle and ran off the side of the road, causing his car to strike a utility pole, overturn and catch on fire. The driver and a female passenger were thrown from the car. The driver died in the wreck, as did a 7-year-old girl who had become trapped in the back seat of the vehicle. The surviving passenger -- a 25-year-old female -- was transported to an area hospital for the treatment of serious injuries.

As of the latest report, authorities believe that impairment may have been a contributing factor in this crash. However, toxicology test results are still pending. No other details about this incident have been reported.

This was truly a tragic event, one that the surviving victim and the family members of the deceased will struggle to overcome for some time. While this car accident may have only involved one vehicle, and the driver failed to survive the incident, this does not mean that those negatively affected by this event are left to handle this situation alone. Personal injury and wrongful death claims may be filed against the estate of the driver in an attempt to seek compensation for any recoverable losses. With the assistance of an experienced attorney, such claims may be brought forward and litigated in a Louisiana civil court.
