1 dead, 1 injured in motorcycle accident on I-20

The moments following an incident on any roadway are perhaps the most dangerous. Before emergency responders arrive and make other motorists aware of the situation, the potential for serious injuries or fatalities exists. For instance, a minor motorcycle accident on Interstate 20 on a recent Saturday night ended with a Louisiana man dead and a woman critically injured.

Somehow, the 43-year-old man driving a motorcycle lost control of it as he traveled eastbound on the interstate. His passenger, a 43-year-old woman, fell off the motorcycle. As he was assisting her and attempting to get her to a safe place off the roadway, a car also heading eastbound struck first the man and then the woman.

When emergency responders arrived, both victims were still alive. They were both rushed to a hospital in the area with severe injuries. Sometime after his arrival at the hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries.

At last report, the woman remained hospitalized and in critical condition. The eastbound stretch of highway where the accident occurred was shut down while officers with the Bossier City Police conducted their investigation. It is not yet known whether any charges are being contemplated against the driver of the car.

Meanwhile, the injured woman retains the right to file a personal injury claim against the party or parties believed to be responsible for her injuries. The family of the deceased man could file a wrongful death claim as well. However, under Louisiana's comparative fault laws, any damages awarded could be reduced by the percentage of liability assigned to him (if applicable) in connection with the motorcycle accident.
