Louisiana hit-and-run car accident leads to 2 deaths

At approximately 8 a.m. on a recent Tuesday, Louisiana rush hour traffic on Interstate 10 was in full swing until it came to a stop as motorists came upon a deadly collision. The car accident ultimately involved three vehicles and two separate crashes. One of the wrecks was a hit-and-run, and the other was fatal.

It began when a car exited the highway. It struck a vehicle on the exit ramp and fled the scene. Apparently, the fleeing car sped along the Interstate 10 service road in the wrong direction. A third vehicle was attempting to make a turn when it encountered the speeding vehicle.

The two cars collided, and the wrong-way vehicle left the ground and slammed into a utility pole. The 24-year-old driver and her 38-year-old passenger suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. It is not known what injuries, if any, the occupants of the other two vehicles involved in these collisions suffered. The upside down vehicle had to be put upright before it could be removed from the area.

If any of them suffered serious injuries, they will likely be able to file personal injury claims against the estate of the driver. The family of the deceased passenger has a similar right to pursue a wrongful death claim. If the evidence presented to a Louisiana civil court establishes that the deceased driver was negligent, damages could be awarded to the victims and/or their families. Any restitution could help with the financial losses that are often incurred in the aftermath of a car accident.
