Man and woman in critical condition after motorcycle accident

| May 20, 2015 | Motorcycle Accidents

Every decision a Louisiana driver makes can have serious consequences. For instance, the decision to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking can put the lives of everyone on the road in danger and cause a horrific automobile or motorcycle accident. Unsuspecting motorists and their passengers could suffer life-altering injuries, or even death, at the hands of someone who should not even be driving.

The lives of a man and woman changed in an instant when a driver suspected of being under the influence slammed into them. At approximately 8:45 p.m. on a recent Friday, a vehicle driven by a 59-year-old man hit a motorcycle as it attempted to cross an intersection. The two riders were catapulted off the motorcycle.

Reports indicate that both the man and woman suffered severe head injuries. They were rushed to a hospital in the New Orleans area where, at last report, they were both considered to be in critical condition. The allegedly impaired driver, however, was uninjured. So far, he faces a DWI charge, but authorities say that could change as the investigation progresses.

Even if Louisiana prosecutors secure a conviction in connection with the motorcycle accident, that does not necessarily help the victims. They each retain the right to file personal injury claims against the driver seeking restitution for the monetary damages they are undoubtedly incurring. Depending on the nature of their injuries, one or both of them could suffer from lifelong mental and physical disabilities. A successfully litigated claim could provide them with a monetary judgment that could provide them with the resources they may need now and in the future.
