Many crashes seem to be caused by impatient drivers. Louisiana drivers may already be aware that the center median pass through, or cut out, is for law enforcement use only. No matter what their reason may be for crossing this barrier, these people can potentially cause a fatal car accident. A recent accident was caused by someone apparently not heeding this commonly known fact.
This pass through for law enforcement may not always be posted, but is usually strictly enforced. Nevertheless, some drivers ignore this because they feel the need to turn around on the highway instead of going to the next exit before doing so. A recent accident was reportedly caused by just this type of decision. According to the Louisiana State Police, a 59-year-old male driver was travelling northbound when his car was struck by a garbage truck of all things. Apparently, the garbage truck made the decision to utilize the cut out to turn around in front of oncoming traffic.
The garbage truck slammed into the rear section of the driver’s side of the car, sending it hurling through traffic. Unfortunately, the driver of the car died in the crash. It was not reported if the driver of the truck was injured in the accident or what his current condition is. No charges have been filed at this juncture.
While routine toxicology screening results are still pending, the Louisiana State Police will continue their investigation into this fatal car accident. The family of the deceased victim might exercise its right to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the garbage truck and the company that employs him. Any awards granted may help the financial burden caused by the sudden death of their loved one.
