No one ever thinks that the last time they spoke with a family member will be the last words they ever hear from him or her. However, many families across the country face the unexpected loss of a loved one in accidents every single day. For example, a recent wreck in Louisiana has taken one man from his family forever.
The 40-year-old man was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by a 29-year-old man. As the vehicle approached the intersection of La. Highway 1057 and La. Highway 1061, the driver of the pickup initiated a left turn. Unfortunately for the passenger, the driver is said to have failed to yield to an oncoming semi-truck.
When the 18-wheeler was unable to stop, it crashed into the pickup and pushed it nearly 200 feet before both vehicles came to a rest. The impact killed the pickup's passenger, and the driver suffered what were characterized as moderate injuries. No further information on the nature of his injuries or his current condition was available. The semi-truck driver suffered no injuries in the crash.
It is not yet known what charges, if any, may be filed in connection with this accident. While authorities make that determination, the family is forced to deal with the unexpected loss of a loved one. This accident took place in Louisiana, but the deceased passenger was from Mississippi. Any wrongful death claim that his family files would typically be filed here in Louisiana. If the claim is successfully litigated, the family may be awarded damages typically seen in tragedies such as this.
