A car accident can happen at any time to anyone, without warning. Most Louisiana motorists know the possible dangers and their responsibilities while driving on the road. No matter how careful a driver may be, the unthinkable can still happen. For a West Baton Rouge Parish couple, the unforeseeable happened, killing them both in a car accident.
This two-vehicle crash took place on West I-10 when two vehicles, coming from opposite directions, met. As a pickup carrying a trailer approached the couple's vehicle, it lost a piece of tread from its tire. This caused the driver to swerve into oncoming traffic toward the vehicle occupied by the couple and their passengers. As the pickup truck's driver tried to stabilize, he ended up losing control. The pickup and its load slammed into the couple's driver side and sent their vehicle sliding off the highway into some trees.
The crash killed the husband who was driving and his beloved wife who was in the driver's side rear seat. The couple was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Louisiana State Police, the passengers in the vehicle occupied by the couple suffered injuries and were taken to a local hospital and treated. The extent of their injuries or their current conditions are unknown at this time. The driver of the pickup truck reported no injures in the crash.
This car accident is still under investigation, but unfortunately, this is a perfect example of a true accident that likely could not have been avoided. Nevertheless, the driver of the pickup truck may be held liable for the deaths of the couple even if no criminal charges are filed. The deceased couple's family is within their rights to file a wrongful death claim In Louisiana against the truck driver. The injured passengers may also wish to file personal injury claims.
