Woman dies a month after car accident, police still investigating

Last month, a serious accident occurred in Baton Rouge that left a woman critically injured. The Aug. 7 crash happened when a car jumped a median on Florida Boulevard and hit another car head-on. The Hammond woman was riding as a front-seat passenger in the vehicle that was hit. After hanging on for several weeks, the woman passed away on Sept. 5.

More than a month later, police are still investigating this terrible accident. It is not clear from the latest news report if police are likely to file charges against the driver that caused the accident. However, if she was considering filing a personal injury lawsuit against the driver, her family may now want to think about a wrongful death lawsuit instead.

When a person's death is caused by someone else's negligence, a wrongful death lawsuit is an option some families may want to consider. Whether a victim was killed by a drunk driver, someone who was driving recklessly, or someone who fled the scene of the accident, the surviving family members deserve to be compensated for their loss.

While thinking about a lawsuit while you are grieving the death of a loved one may be overwhelming at first, many families find that a successful wrongful death lawsuit is worth the effort. It is easy to forget the costs that are associated with a loved one's death. Hospital bills, funeral and burial expenses and other costs can add up. When your loved one's death was the result of someone else's actions, they should be responsible for covering these costs. A successful wrongful death lawsuit can ensure that this happens.
