The dangers of drunk driving in Louisiana

Drunk driving never leads to anything good. There are many families in Louisiana who have lost loved ones because of it. Unfortunately, people continue to do it. Every year, far too many people are killed or seriously injured in this country because of intoxicated driving. Sadly, another person in Louisiana recently lost his life to drunk driving.

On Tuesday evening, a 22-year-old man was driving down LA 37 in St. Helena Parish when he lost control of his car. He swerved off the road, tried to correct his mistake, but went off the road again. After his vehicle struck a culvert, he was thrown out of the car and died. Although a toxicology analysis is still being completed, police believe the young man was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Although we wish this tragic accident had never happened, it serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drunk driving. One life claimed is too many, but there could have been more. At a certain point, this man could not control his vehicle. He swerved across the road while navigating a curve and easily could have hit another car if there was one on the road.

Drunk driving has claimed too many lives in our state and our country. The only way we can ensure that drivers will be safe from it is if it stops completely. While that is easier said than done, if you are injured or forced to suffer the loss of a loved one due to drunk driving, a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit is a good way to send a message that drunk driving won’t be tolerated on our roads.
