Louisiana motorcycle accident involves minor, results in fatality

Running a stop sign is one of the more common traffic laws that individuals do not heed. This lack of stopping could be due to impatience, distracted driving, impairment or any number of other factors. However, failure to stop at an intersection could result in a motorcycle accident and also cause serious or fatal injuries to those involved.

Such an accident recently took place in Louisiana and involved a 23-year-old motorcyclist and a 16-year-old driver of an SUV. According to reports, the driver of the SUV failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling north and collided with the motorcyclist who was traveling east through the intersection. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the crash.

Though the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time, he still suffered fatal injuries. He was transported to a hospital where he was declared dead. The driver of the SUV did not wish to receive medical treatment, and authorities took him into custody. At this time, it is not believed that alcohol was an influence in the accident.

Because the motorcycle accident resulted in a fatality, the driver of the SUV could face charges. The situation may become more complicated because the driver was a minor, but authorities should take all conditions into consideration. The family members of the victim may still wish to pursue a wrongful death case against the responsible parties in order to seek compensation. A successful claim against the owner of the SUV or other parties considered liable could provide reparations that could assist with funeral expenses and other damages permitted under Louisiana law.
