Truck vs. car collision in Ascension Parish kills 87-year-old

Large trucks are a huge part of local and national transportation efforts. Because of this we see them regularly on our highways and even on local roads in Louisiana. Large trucks, however, are not the safest vehicles to be around. If a car ends up going head-to-head with a tractor-trailer or other large truck, the occupants of the car rarely come out unscathed. Sadly, a situation like this happened just last week in Ascension Parish.

Woman dies a month after car accident, police still investigating

Last month, a serious accident occurred in Baton Rouge that left a woman critically injured. The Aug. 7 crash happened when a car jumped a median on Florida Boulevard and hit another car head-on. The Hammond woman was riding as a front-seat passenger in the vehicle that was hit. After hanging on for several weeks, the woman passed away on Sept. 5.

Fatal Louisiana crash highlights importance of safe driving

Think for a minute about some of the main causes of car accidents in Louisiana. There is drunk driving, which we wrote about last week. Every year, far too many people are killed or seriously injured in this country because of intoxicated driving. Sadly, another person in Louisiana recently lost his life to drunk driving.
